Mean Well SE-1000-24 Power Supply

good power supply bit to loud

I bout this one, the SE-1000-24 and 2 additional SE-600-12. For a power supply bank to run 2 4010 Duos out of a mobile carrying case. i set them up in series with fuses separating the power supple. creating 48 volts dc out put up to 42 amps~. this setup works quit well. and has yet to fail in the few months I've own and ran the setup.

the only complaint i have with the power supply in the stems from the fact that it is a server power supply, and true server power supply fans run 24/7. a fact that i'm all to aware of but completely overlooked. coupled with the fact servers are often in there one unoccupied rooms that no one enters unless there is a problem. so fans are selected based solely on performance, not noise levels. the noise level in about on par with driving 60mph with all the windows fully down, but quite abit more annoying.

what i'm saying is the fan is quite loud and always on at full tilt, this power supply in a garage or out door pit area away from everyone else would be fine. but in a indoor pitting area... don't expect to make any friends running this power supply.

my recommendation is to run two SE-600-12 in series to get your 24v 1200w of power over this power supply. will cost the same and give you an extra 200w. Also the 2 fans running 24/7 are more then half the noise lvl. closer to one quarter the noise.

as a side note i will be installing a quieter fan in my se-1000-24. I don't recommend this solution as it both voids the warrant, and decrease the power supply capacity. It can't dispel heat as well.

Beyond the noise of the fan this is a very nice quite capable power supply.

Power supply is awesome, directions are not

On your site there is a video of how to wire this power supply and I'm not trying to be rude or facetious but the directions are absolutely wrong. Never ever is line a white wire and neutral a black wire that is absolutely incorrect. Not saying it won't work it's just incorrect and if you search anywhere on the internet for anything that's powered at all with a line and a neutral they are black and white.
