iCharger X12

X12
The first iCharger with 12S capability, the X12 is truly ready for anything!
$179.99

The first iCharger to offer 12S capability, the X12 is a step forward for operations that require high-voltage input.

With a balance current of a full 2A, charges will finish faster than ever. The full color IPS display provides a wealth of information at a glance, using the operating system perfected on the larger Duo iChargers.

The X12 can charge at up to 30A, and it can also discharge at up to 30A! While similar size chargers limit their discharge capabilities, the X12 offers iCharger's trademark support for regenerative discharge, allowing the charger to provide a full 1100W of discharge capability when powered from a suitable battery bank.

Despite its small size and low price, this is still a full featured iCharger, with multi-chemistry support and all the depth of settings you've come to expect, including an improved software interface for recording battery data and upgrading firmware.

Good charger, BUT…

Very disappointed. Nowhere on the Progressive RC X12 description do they tell you that the iCharger WILL NOT DO 12S or 10S lipos… unless you have a special balance board (that PRC actually sell separately). The charger is really good and worth the money for sure, but I need it to charge my new 10S batteries but found that I should have ordered the $12.99 special balance board. Most progressive retailers will warn you if you do need accessories to make it work for you, PRC are the exception. Unbelievably PRC have still not done anything about the omission that cost me money and frustration re the double shipping to Australia and a 2 week delay, by having to order the accessory board separately once I realised. I’m thankful that the Progressive staff member did acknowledge the problem, however nothing was done about it. NOT what I’d call progressive.

Sorry to disappoint. The X12 supports 12S and 10S lipos. However, if your battery has a 'split' balance lead, i.e. 2x5S connectors to make a 10S connector, you will need an adapter or balance board as you would on any other charger.

Runs off 48v just fine

The x12 allows higher input voltage than x8, and it works fine with 48v input for me. The balancing seems pretty clever and holds the cells quite close. Fast storage program is nice. Not hard to configure once you know the secret long-hold stuff, though the menu tree is slightly non-obvious; fine once you've figured it out once. I've run it up to 18A output so far; no issues. Check out LRS-350-48 for up to 350W at 48v, or _maybe_ 2 LRS-350-24 in series if you really know what you're doing and know about protection diodes and how to ground both supplies (YMMV). For external dump loads for the faster external discharge feature, might be worth considering 24v wind power dump loads, like a 300W 2.9 ohm which are reasonably priced, maybe in series depending on voltage, to keep well below max dump power per. Or regen discharge is awesome if you've got an input battery that can handle it. Seems simpler than dealing with teaming dual channels, especially if your model has dual packs that'll get charged in parallel anyway. Dual channels might be nice for field charging for models that finish off one pack at a time. 2 completely separate chargers with a screen per "channel" is even better, but...
